What it is

An experimental developer kit from real testing of Adobe creative apps on Linux under Wine. It contains Wine source patches, small C test programs that reproduce each bug, a Python launcher that applies the recorded per-app settings, helper tools, and detailed notes on exactly what worked and what didn't.

It is not an installer and does not contain any Adobe software. You bring your own licensed apps and build your own Wine runner.

Features

  • 5 Wine 11.16 patches for Illustrator/Premiere (DirectWrite, GDI32 bitmap alignment, window-handle fixes) and 4 experimental patches from Acrobat work.
  • C reproducer programs for each failure, to test a runner before trusting it with real apps.
  • tools/launch.py: launches Premiere or Illustrator from your own config file with the recorded Wine/GPU settings; --check validates without starting anything; --gpu uses the NVIDIA CUDA/NVENC profile.
  • tools/premiere-preferences.py: previews, applies and exactly restores the Premiere preference changes needed.
  • tools/check-patches.py and tools/verify-export.py for patch and export checks.
  • Recorded results: Premiere Pro 26.5 (editing, titles, save/reopen, 12-minute 1080p export, 4K CUDA/NVENC export); Illustrator 2026 (shapes, text, PNG/SVG/PDF export); After Effects 26.5 with DeeKay (short animation, save/reopen, render). Photoshop 27.10 and Acrobat 26.2: blocked. Lightroom: unverified.

What you need

  • Linux x86-64 (tested only on CachyOS/Arch with KDE Plasma Wayland).
  • Python 3.10+ (standard library only) and FFmpeg/ffprobe.
  • Your own licensed Adobe apps and subscription, installed through Adobe's official channels.
  • The ability to build Wine 11.16 from source.
  • For the GPU profile: an NVIDIA GPU plus separately built nvcuda/nvenc and dxvk-nvapi.
  • Tested hardware: AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 + NVIDIA RTX 5090 Laptop GPU. No other machine has passed yet.

How to install

  1. Download the zip, check its SHA-256 and unzip it.
  2. Read docs/SETUP.md and docs/APPS.md first.
  3. Build the patched Wine runner in a separate copy; don't replace your system Wine.
  4. Install your own Adobe apps into a Wine prefix with that runner.
  5. Copy config.example.json somewhere private and fill in your paths.

How to use it

  1. Validate: python3 tools/launch.py --config your-config.json premiere --check
  2. Launch: python3 tools/launch.py --config your-config.json premiere test.prproj (add --gpu for NVIDIA).
  3. Follow docs/TESTING.md with throwaway media before trusting real projects.

Outside sites it contacts

  • None. The tools only work with files on your computer.

Good to know

  • Experimental developer preview: no one-click installer, setup is technical.
  • Tested on one computer only.
  • Photoshop and Acrobat are blocked for normal interactive work.
  • A Wine prefix is not a security sandbox.
  • Adobe, Premiere Pro, Illustrator, After Effects, Photoshop and Acrobat are trademarks of Adobe Inc. Not affiliated with, endorsed by or supported by Adobe.
