License, trademark & privacy

Plain answers about what you can do with these programs, who owns the name, and what data goes where.

Licenses

Every program states its license on its download page and in the LICENSE file inside the download. Most are released under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 (AGPL-3.0): you may use, study, change and share them. If you share a changed version, including running it as a public website, you must share your source code under the same license and keep the copyright notices.

Linux Creative Compatibility is different: its original tools and notes are MIT-licensed, and its Wine patches are LGPL-2.1-or-later, following Wine's own license.

SQ44 Draw is different again: it is free to download and use, but it is not open source. Its own license (LICENSE.txt in the download) lets you use it for any artwork, personal or commercial, and share the unchanged download; the open-source parts inside it (Electron, Chromium, pdf.js) keep their own licenses, listed in THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt. Bundled fonts (VT323, Share Tech Mono, IBM Plex Mono, JetBrains Mono, Press Start 2P) are under the SIL Open Font License, with the license text included in each download.

Trademarks

SON OF SATOSHI™ and the hexagon S logo are trademarks of Seth Quinn (U.S. Serial No. 50168046, application pending).

The open-source licenses cover the code, not the trademarks. You may say a program came from Son of Satoshi, but you may not use the name or the hexagon S logo to suggest that a changed version, or anything else, comes from me or is approved by me.

Other names mentioned on this site belong to their owners, including Bitcoin wallets and networks, Adobe and its apps, Procreate (Savage Interactive), Apple and iPad, Microsoft Windows, DaVinci Resolve (Blackmagic Design), Wine, and the games named on the Game Preservation page. I'm not affiliated with any of them.

This website

This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics or trackers, uses no scripts, and loads nothing from other websites: the fonts, images and videos are all served from here. It is delivered through Cloudflare, which handles the connection to keep the site online and safe.

The programs

The programs run on your own computer and keep your data there. Some need the internet for their job. This table lists every outside site each one contacts:

ProgramLicenseOutside sites it contacts
SonOfSatoshi MinterAGPL-3.0The blockchain networks and wallet you choose (through your wallet and the network's public services). Your IPFS node or Pinata, if you use them. mempool.space for Bitcoin fee data, unless you point it at your own node. By default: api.hiro.so (Stacks), api.mainnet-beta.solana.com and api.devnet.solana.com (Solana), mainnet.base.org and sepolia.base.org (Base). You can point each one at your own node in Settings. ipfs.io or gateway.pinata.cloud: the image links written into your NFT metadata, so wallets and marketplaces showing your art load it from there.
Seth FX for DaVinci ResolveAGPL-3.0None for the effects, transitions and titles. The optional "Seth BTC Price" script looks up the current Bitcoin price online when you run it.
Linux Game PreservationAGPL-3.0Your own NAS, only if you run the backup script. The Black & White 2 fix script runs winetricks, which downloads a DirectX file (d3dx9) from Microsoft.
Sovereign Media StackMITDocker downloads each app from its own publisher (LinuxServer.io, the Seerr team, gluetun, Cloudflare). Seerr and the media apps look up titles, posters and episode lists online. qBittorrent only ever goes out through your VPN. check.sh asks ipinfo.io for your public address (once from home, once through the VPN) to compare them. Nothing is sent to the Son of Satoshi.
Linux Creative CompatibilityMIT + LGPL-2.1None. The tools only work with files on your computer.
